Carol Creighton Burnett was born on 26, April 1933 to Joseph Burnett and Ina Louise. Both of her parents were alcoholics and most of the times were unemployed and divorced in late 1930s.

Carol Burnett was raised by her maternal grandmother Mabel and she not only fulfilled her childhood needs but encourages her to enhance her skills on art, music and comedy.

Carol Burnett started her career from a popular children show, "The Winchell-Mahoney Show" in the year 1955 and later performed in many TV serials and films as well. She performed in "The Garry Moore Show", which was telecasted by CBS Network and due to the immense popularity of the show, CBS offered regular shows to Carol Burnett. Some of her serials telecasted by CBS include Julie and "Carol and Carnegie Hall", "The Entertainers" and "The Carol Burnett Show".

The Carol Burnett Show, which was aired at CBS Networks from the year 1967, was produced by Joe Hamilton. After a shaky start the show became the most popular variety show. Although it was telecasted hour long at prime time, after 1972 the timing of telecast was changed to Saturday 10 pm. The show has won many awards and recognitions including 23 Emmy. Each season of the show either got nominations or got award for various features of the show. Carol Burnett has also acted in a number of feature films and some of them include "The Wedding", "Friendly Fire" and "Pete `n` Tillie".
